Ashley Elizabeth Alexander, MD

Ashley Alexander, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina. As part of Sumter Surgical Associates, she delivers a broad range of surgical consultations using current guidelines and evidence-based care. She performs a wide range of operations, including minimally invasive procedures using the da Vinci robotic platform. Originally from Carrollton, Texas, Dr. Alexander earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She returned to Texas for residency, completing her intern year at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the remaining four years of training at Texas Health Harris Methodist in Fort Worth. Following residency, she relocated to South Carolina to begin an elective practice in Sumter, where she sees a variety of patients in both the clinic and hospital setting,

Dr. Alexander has a strong clinical interest in hernia repair, including the management of complex abdominal wall hernias. She emphasizes individualized surgical planning and frequently uses minimally invasive and robotic techniques when appropriate to reduce postoperative pain, shorten recovery time and optimize long-term outcomes.

Outside of work, Dr. Alexander spends most of her time with her 6-year-old golden retriever, Butterbean. They take many vacations together to the beach and the mountains but also can frequently be spotted out and about in the community enjoying the local cuisine at a patio table with a good book.
