Claire Carpenter Phillips, PsyD is a licensed psychologist who practices in the area of clinical child and adolescent psychology. Dr. Phillips also is certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidenced-based behavioral parent training program for children ages 2-7 with various behavioral problems. Dr. Phillips earned her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in psychology and Masters in Social Work (MSW) West Virginia University in her hometown of Morgantown, West Virginia. She earned her Master of Arts (MA) and her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) both in clinical psychology from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, where she worked with children and families at the Marshall University Psychology Clinic, the Marshall University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, Head Start, and the West Virginia Children’s Rural Health Project.
Dr. Phillips completed her pre-doctoral psychology internship at the Devereux Foundation Institute of Clinical Training and Research in Malvern, Pennsylvania working with adolescents residing in a residential treatment facility with disruptive behavior disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and various childhood traumatic experiences. Dr. Phillips completed her post-doctoral training at the Child NeuroBehavioral Center for Health and Wellness in Augusta, Georgia, where she received an additional eighteen months of training in clinical and neuropsychological assessment of children and adolescents for learning disorders, developmental disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, behavioral disorders, and emotional problems as well as further training in the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, and behavioral issues.
Dr. Phillips has provided psychological services to children and families in the Midlands and surrounding areas since 2014. She started in private practice and joined the Prisma Midlands Team in 2024. Her current areas of practice include PCIT and other evidence-based behavioral interventions for children and adolescents. Dr. Phillips also provides psychological assessment to assist providers and patients in differential diagnosis to help rule out concerns such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning problems, anxiety, and mood disorders. As a mother of two, she understands that every child and family have their own unique set of strengths and needs.
Dr. Phillips is a native of West Virginia, the heart of the Appalachian South. Outside of serving children and families of the Midlands, Dr. Phillips enjoys spending time with her family, watching WVU sports, traveling, reading, and cooking.
