Jonathan Robert Manning Kaplan, MD

Jonathan Kaplan, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship-trained foot and ankle specialist dedicated to helping patients regain mobility and return to the activities they enjoy. He specializes in comprehensive treatment of foot and ankle injuries and conditions, with expertise in both conservative and advanced surgical techniques.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Kaplan earned his undergraduate degree, graduating cum laude with majors in chemistry and Spanish, from Illinois Wesleyan University. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he graduated with honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He also received the Chancellor's Student Service Leadership Award and the Alumni Student Service Award for his commitment to leadership and service.

Dr. Kaplan completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center. During his training, he was recognized as an American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Resident Scholar, an American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leader Program Scholar, and received the USC Senior Outstanding Research Award for his work on Achilles tendon ruptures. He went on to complete an advanced fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Mercy Medical Center Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction under the mentorship of internationally recognized leaders in the field.

His clinical interests include minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, sports-related injuries, bunion correction, Achilles tendon repair, ankle and foot arthroscopy, arthritis treatment, deformity correction and complex reconstructive procedures. Dr. Kaplan is committed to offering personalized treatment plans that combine the latest surgical innovations with evidence-based, patient-centered care. Through his passion in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery he has been on the forefront of advancement of minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery not only as a clinical but also as an international instructor in these techniques.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Kaplan remains actively involved in research and education. His scholarly interests include minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, foot and ankle injuries in athletes, Achilles tendon problems, foot arthritis, and lower extremity deformity correction. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has previously served as an Assistant Editor for Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics. He is also an active member of American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society including previously serving as the chair of the AOFAS Governance committee and member on the Research Committee and membership committee.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Kaplan enjoys spending time with his wife & kids, hiking, golfing, weightlifting and following Chicago sports. He is passionate about helping patients return to healthy, active lifestyles through exceptional orthopedic care.
