Kenneth W Phelps, LMFT

Dr. Kenneth Phelps is a child, adolescent, and family therapist at Prisma Health. He serves as Professor of Clinical Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science and Adjunct Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Neurology Division at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Phelps completed his graduate training in Medical Family Therapy at East Carolina University, where he also obtained licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). During his graduate studies, he was among the first researchers to publish on the simultaneous experiences of stress and enrichment among parents and caregivers of children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Following his doctoral training, Dr. Phelps completed a behavioral health internship at NH Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency. After graduating in 2010, he pursued advanced specialty training in the treatment of Tourette Syndrome and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Since that time, a significant portion of his clinical work has focused on treating children, adolescents, and young adults living with OCD, anxiety disorders, and tic disorders, alongside ongoing educational and administrative leadership responsibilities.

At Prisma Health, Dr. Phelps serves as Director of the Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic. He is actively involved in the education and supervision of trainees across multiple psychiatry residency programs. Nationally, he serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the Tourette Association of America, functions as a supervisor within the organization’s Behavioral Therapy Institute, and serves as a board member for OCD South Carolina, an affiliate of the International OCD Foundation.
