We have visited this facility several times and have always had positive experiences, but our recent visit with this provider was disappointing. The provider did not wash his hands or use hand sanitizer upon entering the room, which was concerning during a physical appointment. I understand that providers often encourage teenagers to become more involved in their own healthcare and may ask if they would like to speak privately. However, the way it was handled during this visit felt uncomfortable and awkward for both my son and me. I have always been present during my son's office visits, so I was surprised that the provider asked my son if he wanted me in there. I felt that if the provider had reviewed the notes from previous visits, there would have been a better understanding of our history and less need to ask certain questions in a way that felt uncomfortable. Throughout the appointment, the provider largely ignored me as the parent and communicated in a way that felt dismissive. At one point, I mentioned that my son has played soccer since he was little, and the comment was completely ignored. While I absolutely support my son becoming more independent in medical settings, I still expect respectful communication and acknowledgment as his parent. My son also noticed the dismissive behavior and commented on it afterward. Overall, the bedside manner and professionalism during this visit left us feeling uncomfortable and disappointed.
