Michael Anthony Sierra, MD

Dr. Sierra is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and the supervising physician for the pain program embedded child psychiatry consultation service. He attended Florida International University followed by the Florida State University College of Medicine. He received post-graduate medical training at the Medical University of South Carolina where he specialized in general psychiatry and then sub-specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Sierra joined Prisma Health in 2019 to work in a variety of clinical settings. He assists doctors receiving post-graduate training in psychiatry and speaks both English and Spanish.

As a child and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. Sierra specializes in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions. These treatments include medication options. Mental health conditions may co-occur in patients with complex and chronic pain, and if these conditions are unrecognized or untreated, they may further worsen one’s quality of life and create barriers to pain-reducing treatments. Some psychiatric medications have been shown to reduce certain types of pain.
