Whitney Rose Schwalm, MD

Whitney Schwalm, MD, graduated magna cum laude with a BA in healthcare studies from the University of Richmond and with a passion for global health, the medical humanities and human rights. She began her career working as a public health associate for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She then attended medical school at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where she was a Kenan Primary Care Urban Medicine Scholar and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. UNC is where she fell in love with the study of complementary and alternative medicine with the desire to provide more holistic and integrative care for her patients. She also participated in The Healer’s Art, strengthening values of service, healing relationships, reverence for life and compassionate care. She completed her residency training at Prisma Health Family Medicine Residency in Greenville, South Carolina, with a focus on lifestyle medicine, which is an evidence-based approach to preventing, treating and even reversing diseases by replacing unhealthy behaviors with positive ones. Her special interests include LGBTQIA+ and gender-affirming care, harm reduction and humanism in medicine.

In her free time, you can find Dr. Schwalm in a yoga class, hiking, biking, enjoying the incredible visual and performing arts Greenville has to offer including slam poetry, listening to a podcast on science, philosophy, or storytelling, and spending time with her beloved pets.
