About William Earl Wheeler

William E Wheeler, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon providing wound care at Prisma Health Greer Memorial Hospital in Greer, South Carolina. Dr. Wheeler has been a tenured associate professor of surgery at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, where he worked in the local burn unit for six years and published more than 30 articles. He has been the chief of surgery at the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia, chief of surgery and chief of staff at both the Spartanburg Health Cherokee Medical Center in Gaffney, South Carolina, and at Prisma Health Baptist Easley Hospital in Easley, South Carolina.

Dr. Wheeler was in private practice for 15 years and worked for 10 years at Baptist Easley Hospital before devoting all his time to wound care. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the South Carolina chapter of the American College of Surgeons, the Southern Medical Association and the South Carolina Medical Association, where he serves on the continuing medical education committee.

Dr. Wheeler enjoys providing thorough and compassionate wound care to his patients using all of the modern wound care products, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO), biological product and negative pressure wound therapy. He urges his patients to make lifestyle changes that will improve their health and decrease their chances of recurrence of their wounds.

Dr. Wheeler and his wife, who is a school nurse, have two sons and three grandsons. They enjoy spending time with their grandsons, traveling, golf, movies, their dog (Yaya) and participating in their church activities. Dr. Wheeler enjoys giving back to the community by participating in Meals on Wheels, working in the local soup kitchen, doing first responder work and going on mission trips to the Dominican Republic to provide wound care and surgical care.
